Martin was born under the foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town.
He has been fascinated with making art since primary school.

“I have always liked the sense of community of working together on social issues,tackling social conditions and exploring the root cause of these. My inspiration derives from people’s stories and people themselves.”

Since the mid 1980s he has worked as a media/art trainer at Community Arts Project and participated in exhibitions in communities in and around Cape Town.

He has travelled extensively to Canada, Sweden, Denmark, United States, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia to share experience and knowledge of media, gender, art/culture and communication.
